While South Africa has a proud motorsport heritage, the downturn in our economy is putting increasing pressure on the sport, with many competitors facing the challenge of diminishing sponsorships and rising costs associated with racing vehicles, fuel and gear.
To show our support for South African motorsport, we launched our exciting #FuelMyRace initiative for motorsport competitors across the country in 2018.
We called on South Africa’s finest motorsport participants – in motorcross, rally, enduro, track racing, etc. – to put forward their credentials in a chance to win a motorsport sponsorship for the 2018 season.
Amongst other things, we offered free fuel for practice and competitions, competition entry fees, and race vehicle branding.
We were looking for – not only the crème de la crème of South African motoring talent – but for individuals who are passionate about their sport, dedicated and disciplined, enthusiastic in spreading the word about motorsport, articulate and well-presented, have a good presence on social media, conduct themselves in a professional and sporting manner towards their fellow competitors, and share our brand values.
From the many applications received, shortlisted individuals were invited to produce and submit a short promotional video, used in our #FuelMyRace social media campaign, demonstrating how they use our ACCELERATE Special Gasoline – the most creative works helped two lucky racers earn the
coveted sponsorship!
Two intrepid racers were named 2018 Youth Brand Ambassadors of ACCELERATE Special Gasoline – Powered by SA Oil – race car star Giordano Lupini and superbike superstar Savannah Woodward. Find out more about them over here…
In addition to our ACCELERATE Special Gasoline Youth Brand Ambassadors, we also support individuals and/or teams in annual and/or one-off motorsport events who we feel represent our brand values and have a good fit with our target market and product offering – such honorary brand ambassadors include the BMW Car Club Gauteng, Penta Group’s Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrafoglia Jaguar Simola Hill Climb Team, and Sarel van Der Merwe, who raced a MK1 Ford Escourt at the 2019 Passion for Speed Festival at Killarney Raceway, Cape Town.
