South African motorsport legend Sarel ‘Supervan’ van der Merwe was one of the event’s major attractions – the South African racer has an impressive motorsport track record, with multiple South African Rally Driver wins under his belt, on top of a score of other racing achievements. Needless to say, fans attending the Passion for Speed Festival were eager to meet with the racing icon – and he was happy to oblige!
Although Sarel was set to race in a freshly-ACCELERATE Special Gasoline-branded Ford Escort Mk1, courtesy of Willie Ras to whom the car belongs, engine problems unfortunately took the car out of the day’s racing events leaving Sarel on the sidelines. This was no setback for Supervan, however, who took the snag in his professional stride, and instead spent the day meeting with fans and motoring enthusiasts. We were proud to sponsor such a super racer with our super fuel!
Other events raced on without a hitch, showcasing some impressive vehicles – Lamborghinis, Opels, Fords and big V8s, as well as some superbikes and classic motorcycles for those who fancy two wheels over four. The G-Energy sponsored event was a roaring success, and has definitely set the bar high for motoring events still to come this year!
