Food Drive: Together, We CAN!

It may be a cliché, but it certainly rings true: teamwork makes the dream work! Recently, we teamed up with B2Gold Namibia on their end-of-year food drive, part of their ongoing corporate social investment campaign. Take a look…

What’s the Campaign All About?

Says Corporate Social Investment Project Consultant for B2Gold Namibia, Sherri Lyttle, the idea behind their ‘We CAN Do it’ campaign is that everyone can make a difference if we work together, and that small acts of kindness can change lives: “If every one of our team brings in just one can of food, once a month – the day after payday – we’ll soon have enough cans to make a significant impact on a beneficiary of choice, like a soup kitchen, a hostel, or a children’s home. The cherry on the top – B2Gold matching their canned contributions!”

Launched in October 2017, with a Rosie the Riveter style mascot –  the B2Gold We CAN Do It Campaign has got off to a roaring start! “Employees nominate the beneficiaries of the cans collected themselves,” explains Lyttle, “with the first beneficiary being the Moria Grace (Mother Wilhelmina) Private Hostel in Katutura, Namibia, which staff selected after reading an appeal for help by the hostel in a local newspaper.”

The hostel is home to 124 disadvantaged children – many of them orphans or survivors of ‘baby dumping’. In 2017, the hostel has been hit by budget cuts, which have left it struggling to care for the children in its charge. Happily, the run-up to Christmas is looking much better for these children when 500 cans of food were handed over to the hostel in an impromptu ceremony on the 28th November 2017.

SA Oil was happy to be a part of this initiative, with a generous contribution of canned food of our own! Enjoy some pictures from the hand-over ceremony on our Facebook page: @SAOilMedia.
